mood board for series

I feel that this represents the tv series well as I feel the main theme is being trapped and isolated and trying to ecape.

face and hair charts charts for claudia and Mrs Ladersham

My first face chart for Claudia I wanted to portray a crazed look with a pale complexions slightly contoured dark eyes and bags.. After looking further into this design I feel it could be expanded and as I'm making Claudia a patient at the asylum I want to develop her more and add more special
effects such as scratches etc..
For this I wanted to add scratches and make her have blood shoot eyes although I do like the idea of this look I want it to be more full on and dramatic so I think Ill develop further from this look.

I really think this look for claudia could look very well Ill use it for my final as I want to create flaky lips and alot of scratches where she has done self abuse to herself and I want more if your face bags to show the true exhaustion.
A face chart for Mrs Laderham I wanted to create her alter ego as in my version she is a nun and the asylum that has split personality and I wanted to create a seductive full faced makeup look something you wouldnt expect a nun to look like.
developing further I was thinking about a loose hair style and maybee smudging the lips stick to create a crazed look although I'm unsure about that as I want her alter ego to be too in control to have messy lipstick. I like the idea of the hair style although I am thinking of creating a slick back bun as I've been looking at the series and the nuns all have hair tied back off their face.

Another look for Mrs ladersham I really like the look for this I want to use this for my final look I love the contourning and soft but dramatic eyes I've changed the lips from an obvious red color to more of a plum I feel it will work really well.

Another look for mrs laderham was an all dark look I do like the look of a one colour scheme although I do think it could look too theatrical and cartoon character feeling to it.

Hair idea for claudia I like the idea of a messed up plat look with pieces of hair stuck to the face that are wet I feel it will really give a grungey look I feel that I will use this for my final.

But going on from that look pinning bangs into placeand having messy hair going fro the back I feel that could be effective because it would show off the makeup well.

For this look I wanted a wavey/frizzy slick back look that is almost stuck to her head to appear like greasy hair to show she doesnt take care of her self.

Mrs laderham I watnted to portray a structured bob look that flicks out but after thinking about it I feel an up hair style would look better.

This hair style I was thinking of creating a structured rolled curl bun look similar to the one I created on the american horror story hair styles.

I actually really like the idea of this hair style as it reminds me of the nuns already on the tv show i would pull the hair back in a pony tail then  this will be the hairstyle I use.

Mrs Laderham

For this look I used kryolan foundation with a slight mix of illamasaqua  skin base Blending it onto the neck and ears but in reflection  I should have gone onto her shoulders and further down the neck. I powdered with illamasqua loose powder I used the combination of Naked Pallet 3 and kryolan eye shadow pallet I feel it worked well as I wanted a soft but dramatic look. I used illamsqua sculpting duo and kryolan bronzing powders to highlight and contour I wanted it very dramatic and in your face. For the eye brows I used Two faced and lips I used kryolan lip pallet then used black lip liner to add more depth I applied mascara and eyeliner and added coal eyeliner to the water line and smudged out under the eye
For the eyes.
For the hair is slightly disappointing as I need to concentrate on back combing so hair styles last.but I did the parting tied the hair into a pony tail then plated and created a bun from that pinning into place.

Over all I am pleased with the out come I do really like that makeup I should have taken the foundation down the chest and arms as it looks different on camera I mostly like the contouring although the hair didnt go exactly to plan I do like that its off the face as I didnt want it to go too dramatic as stick to the nun side of the character. but after thinking of it I do like the fact the hair isnt exactly inplace as it can bee seen as she cant keep up with the double life that she is leading.

Awakening

Awakening

I chose Awakening to fixate on how Mrs Laderman Is Awakening her alter ego.It made me think of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde with the split personality balancing between good and evil which inspired me to look further onto mental illness. pictured it in her own room watching the transformation going from simplistic natural makeup into her alter ego that has an over powering look. awakening could also mean the awakening of the evil inside her that has been kept away with the mask of being a nun and when he alter ego comes out there's no knowing what will happening.

SAVE US

I chose save us as I see Claudia as a lost soul who's own loneliness caused her to fabricate a boyfriend and a new environment to live in because I feel she's lost and as she cant go outside she has to pretend what it could be like. The setting influenced  how I wanted her to be styled by having fragile but sinister look about her with a pale completion Also save us can reflect on saving the patents at the asylum as throughout the series its revealed that alot of the patents aren't actually mentally disturbed but have mental issues like depression etc and they weren't seen as illnesses they were seen as sins or that Satan had taken over them so they were evil. Also there not even in safe hands as you find out that the doctors and nurses in charge of taking care of them and looking after there well being have there own skeletons in the closet and there own motives which aren't always good.

mood board claudia

For this my inspiration is trapped  and I like the look of the make-up and hair also the pose of looking very sinister the blood to represent the gore.

Moodboard

I choose Dr jekyll and Mr Hyde as I want to portray a split personality  The nurse from asylum I had chosen Is the one with the split personality as she was possessed  and I want to take inspiration from her hair styling also the girl is my makeup insperation.

experimenting for claudia

I tried using a torch to create a creepy lighting for it although certain aspects of this image appeals for me it doesn't show off the make-up and distorted the image slightly.

I tried using lighting but for some reason it blurred the camera focus but it was worth trying out.

thought of having her trapped in a cupboard to show that she has acrophobia  although I didn't feel that it worked as well although she does look sinister.

I liked this image as it shows the make-up well although the hair had dropped and you can see the tattoo that could be cropped but I feel I had better images.I Also like how crazed she looks in the bottom image although the composition is off.

Editing images
I played around changing the filters on photoshop and I personally love the out comes I feel that the shower images work well also how I had to work fast so the make-up didnt come off I feel it went very welll.

CLAUDIA

Here's some of My favorite images from my Claudia shoot to create this look I firstly used mac foundation mixed with kryolan skin base foundation I used this over the face neck, lips, ears, over her chest and arms. I didn't moisturize my client and I wanted a rough texture for the shoot. Then I powdered with mac loose powder once I had powdered I added eyelash glue to her lips and layered with tissue added eye lash glue to her neck above her eye brow chin around her nose and on her arm to create a cut and boil like mark. Once the eyelash Glue had dried I went over with the left over foundation I had mixed prior. Then with the tweezers I picked apart some of the glue to create flakey looking skin I used Supra colour to painting parts of the lips also using the black from the kryolan eye shadow pallet. for the scratches on the neck I used a hard paitning brush and did quick motions with the brush to create the marks  and then used the end of the brush to make the bigger marks. Then for the eyes and cuts I used supra colour and kryolan eye shadow pallet to create the marks blending the colours together what I feel worked well was I used mac shine to create the greasy look I feel that tied it together. to make the hands dirty I used supra colour and moisturizer to blend them into the creases of the skin. Then I used Kryolan eye shadow to dirty the teeth which added alot of effect to the finish look. The hair I wanted to-do child like plaits that had been matted as I feel like Claudia is a lost child in some parts of her personailty. I really love my final looks especially the 1st 3rd 8th and  9th pictures and I feel I got my message across that claudia Is not to be messed with as shes a deluded physcopath.
These too bottom picture is what my look developed from which I find amazing.

Evaluation Claudia Quentin

At first I was unsure about the Claudia and Quentin as there were so many paths you could choose to go down but once I had decided the TV series I loved it! I really enjoyed creating a background story for my charaters I chose to do Claudia and Mrs Ladersham. I feel that I could have pushed the boundaries further with Mrs Ladersham but I wanted to portray her alter ego almost  and as average Mrs Ladersham was a nun with a split personality which reminded me of jackle and Hyde. I thought A nuns Alter ego would have a full face of make-up and to make it sinister I decided to make it dark and alluring. In reflection I could have experimented more but I will take that into consideration for my next project. The part of the project I enjoyed the most was creating Claudia my lovely patient at the Asylum at first I was just going to create her as a servery drained  patient but thought why not go further and make her completely insane adding cuts and scratches being overly dramatic with everything which I adored doing I love how some of my images turned out and really enjoyed doing the photoshoot which I was surprised with because I don't normally enjoy that process. Although I do like my final look for claudia I do understand that I could improve certain parts as I could of blended the eyes slightly more to make the bags look more realistic as I know I need to come away from the theatrical sides of things Overall I really loved this part of the project and wished I had longer to create more characters the practical lessons really helped me with creating claudia and Mrs Landerham so I'm looking forward to next term to learn more and progress forward.

Evaluation of great expections /gothic horror

Throughout this project I've learnt new processes and techniques such as theatrical ageing also I found a passion for special effects which I really enjoyed doing as i found the process fun and how there was no boundaries although some of the processes I struggled with such as when using the products blending in with out it pealing it off I also have to step back from going theatrical with cuts etc to make them appear more realistic especially using molds because I found that difficult to blend into my clients skin .Watching and reading great expectation was also eye opening as I had never watched or read it before I really enjoyed the story line and it inspires me to look further into Charles Dickens as I feel it could help my work in the future. Learning about the importance of continuity will really help me in the future as I'm more drawn into the theatrical side of make-up and Film side I will really need to learn to be very precise with my notes and setting up my station. As I learnt from my hair mistake which I am disappointed in but I'm going to take it as a learning curve also that being organised is the key and that is proberly one of my main flaws of having a scatter brain but I'm improving by double checking and I've found making lists pinning that up where I see every day helps and also putting notes on my phone as I always have my phone on me. Learning about the Victorian Era was interesting as I previously learnt some from school so it was nice to be refreshed and I also understand that history will always influence current styles and processes so its important to know. I also really enjoyed the freedom of developing further into characters and looking at them in depth not just reading the obvious for example Estella not just seeing her as a spoilt stuck up child but seeing that she had been manipulated and almost groomed into a heartless men hating syncical being by someone who was ment to protect her and teach her right from wrong. Overall I feel this project went well I've learnt that keeping on top my work is key and that for next year I will try even harder so I can reach my full potential as I dont feel I've hit it yet and there is still room for improvement. I found that hair is a weakness of mine which I aim to improve and just because it isn't my favorite part of the course I shouldn't neglect it so next year I will concentrate more on that.

High definition Broadcasting

http://www.bbc.co.uk/academy/production/article/art20130702112136285

HD television can be intimidating as every thing is shown too much make-up is obvious so you have to be careful as you still want to cover the imperfections but you don't want to appear to be too full of makeup
HDTV comes in 2 formats: 1080p (1920x1080p) 2.07mp per frame / 1080i (1920x1080i) 2.07 mp per frame 720p (1280 x 720p) 0.92mp per frame
P = progressive seam
I = interlaced
Prepartion is the key as everything shows up so you want a fresh clean canvas cleansing, toning and moisturizing cant be skipped.
According to make-up artist say that techniques like air brushing works well with HD TV  it lasts longer and the micronized pigments are far less detectable on camera which then gives the illusion of flawless skin. You can contour and add blusher on top although un-blended blusher shows up horrendously on HD so you can air brush over to smooth the surface. if your working with film the majority of your kit will be in HD standard My foundation pallet from Kryolan is amazing for this as it creates a photo ready base. You mainly need to concentrate on hiding imperfections such as blemishes and smoothing over wrinkles.

BBC first introduced HD make-up to companys such as Sky and virgin media at certain times then it became a regular occurance

Estella final plus face and hair charts

After thinking how I wanted to portray Estella and what scene I wanted her In I decided to create a fresh look where Estella had just been attacked. I used Illamasqua skin base mixed with kryolan foundation pallet I blended from the neck to the ears then powderd using illmasaqua finishing powdered then I did a light contour and used Illamsqua powder blush and kryolan lip stick to give her a youthful look. to create the black eye I used a combination of  kryolan eye shadow pallet and Supra colour pallet I mixed yellow, red, purple and slight tones of grey and black I tried to make the colours slightly more predominant than my practice but still not making it theatrical then I used mac shine to make it look fresh and added slight bags under the other eye for the eye brows I combed into place the applied toofaced eyebrow wax.
For the hair I did say I wanted it neater during the practice but after thinking I would really prefer to explore the true domestic violence behind Estella but I kept some aspects neat. I firstly sectioned the hair into a center parting keeping the hair off the face pulled the sections back then sectioned the back of the hair into to segments rolled up pinned attached apiece of hair a round to join them then started pulling the hair as i wanted it to appear as if  she had been grabbed by the hair and pulled.

Over all I really enjoyed creating Estella although I could have been bolder with the black eye I feel it works well and looks better with the added shine. The aspect I would go back and improve on is the hair although I wanted it to look like she had gone through a struggle I could have done something else for example adding red colouring to make it look like shes hit her head or added hair pieces. I am happy with my outcome It has again taught be the importance of preparation and time management

This is the hair design I chose in the end I do like the design as its very I like the girly bow at the back.

For this I want to do a center parting taking all the hair off the face creating a roll up bun at the back. But felt it was bit boring as an over all design
Another look I was thinking of doing was center parting slight hight at the back rolled up bun and curls going down from the hair but felt it was the neater version of my Ms Havisham hair and feel it would look repetive.

My first Idea for estella was to do a simple make-up with slight darkness under the eyes to show that shes hiding all the pain but felt it was too boring.

For this design I thought about enhancing the black eye and adding a scratch but I felt that the scratch could be too much but I liked the idea of having a black eye.

So in the end I chose to do this design as I feel its a combination of both and I really like the idea of portraying the domestic abuse.
